PROGRAM NOTE

“Postlude,” composed in February, 2005, was commissioned by Laura Dunbar and St. Paulís Episcopal Church for premiere on the parish’s E.M. Skinner organ by Tim Pyper on Feb. 27, 2005. It was written as a companion piece to a setting of Psalm 95 (“Come, let us sing unto the Lord”) for treble voices and organ. The ecstatic rising scales throughout the work illustrate the overriding sense of joy in the text, and multiple quotations from the companion Psalm setting further link the text and music.
